A welterweight bout pitting recently-signed veteran Frank Trigg against contender Josh Koscheck is likely for September 26th at UFC 103, MMA Mania is reporting.

According to the report, Koscheck is also open to fighting former UFC 170-pound champion Matt Hughes, but a matchup with Trigg appears most-likely for UFC 103, which does not yet have a confirmed location with cities in the UK, Texas, as well as Las Vegas in the mix.

A cast member on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, Koscheck emerged as a contender in the welterweight division by earning wins in seven of his first eight bouts. After suffering a unanimous decision loss to current champion Georges St-Pierre in mid-2007, Kos rebounded with back-to-back victories over Dustin Hazelett. The former collegiate wrestlerhas has stumbled lately, scoring a first round knockout of Yoshiyuki Yoshida between losses to upcoming title challenger Thiago Alves and newcomer Paulo Thiago, though the latter was a controversial flash knockout protested by Koscheck.

Trigg (19-6), whose return to the UFC was confirmed earlier this week, went 2-3 in his first stint in the Octagon, twice challenging for the welterweight title in his first UFC stint, but falling short on both occasions. Since leaving the UFC in 2005, “Twinkle Toes” has gone 7-2, including an IconSport title bout victory over Jason “Mayhem” Miller as well as wins against Kazuo Misaki, Edwin Dewees, and Falaniko Vitale.

Hughes (43-7), who was victorious over Matt Serra last Saturday at UFC 98, is currently a free agent but confirmed following his recent victory that he has no plans to retire and has vowed to re-sign with the UFC, with his next fight likely to be near his home state of Illinois.

vi vet inte om frank har blivit bättre vilket jag tror, och tror starkt på att han kommer ta koscheck.

Hur mycket jag än vill se den blonda krulltotten få däng av Trigg så tror jag inte det kommer ske. Han e för bra för det...tyvärr

det märks, men tror trigg kommer vinna.

Tror på Trigg jag också, glaskäkar är inte speciellt effektiva att blockera slag med.

Ja, så är det, Minotauro har även han utvecklat en glaskäke.

Nä, att säga att Koscheck har glaskäke var väl kanske lite i överkant, har dessutom sett väldigt lite av Trigg, bara hans berömda klappningar i princip. Men jag gillar helt enkelt inte Koscheck.

Top UFC welterweight contender Josh Koscheck (12-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) will indeed meet returning UFC veteran Frank Trigg (19-6 MMA, 2-3 UFC) at UFC 103 in Dallas.

Rumors of the bout have been widespread in recent days, and sources close to the event have indicated to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that bout agreements have been distributed and are expected to be finalized shortly.

While initial reports suggested the bout would take place on Sept. 26, and possibly in the U.K., the event will now be held on Sept. 19, just three days after UFC Fight Night 19 takes place in Oklahoma City.

Koscheck started his UFC career by winning seven of his first eight fights in the organization. The American Kickboxing Academy-trained fighter has since gone just 3-3, dropping hard-fought decisions to Georges St. Pierre and Thiago Alves, as well as a surprising TKO defeat to Paulo Thiago in his most recent performance.

Trigg fights for the first time in the UFC since 2005, when back-to-back losses to Georges St. Pierre and Matt Hughes led to his release from the organization. The Xtreme Couture fighter has amassed a 7-2 record since his release, including a four-fight win streak he'll carry into the September contest.

While the UFC generally does not conduct multiple events within such a short time frame, the move is not without precedent. The UFC's first (and to date, only) trip to Texas in April 2007 (Houston's UFC 69) was preceded just two days earlier by a UFC Fight Night card held in Las Vegas.

While UFC 103 is expected to take place at the American Airlines Center, an official venue for the event has not been named.

MMAjunkie.com first reported Dallas as a possible location earlier this week. Sources close to the event said Phoenix was also under consideration for UFC 103.
